Porcelain crown with base alloy
Strong, natural-looking crown with a porcelain finish over a metal base.
A porcelain crown with a base alloy covers and protects a damaged tooth while restoring its shape, strength, and appearance. A metal substructure provides durability, and porcelain layered on top delivers a natural tooth-like finish.
Crowns are used when a tooth has extensive decay, a large filling, root canal treatment, or a fracture that cannot be repaired with a simple filling alone. They encase the entire visible portion of the tooth above the gum line.
What to expect
The tooth is prepared, impressions are taken, and a temporary crown protects it while the final restoration is made in the laboratory. At a follow-up visit, the permanent crown is checked for fit, bite, and colour before being cemented in place.
Who is it for
This type of crown is well suited to back teeth that endure heavy chewing forces, where the strength of a metal base combined with porcelain aesthetics offers an excellent balance of function and appearance.
After your treatment
Avoid chewing hard or sticky foods on the crowned tooth for the first day after cementation. Brush and floss normally, paying attention around the gum margin. Contact us if the crown feels high when biting or becomes loose.
